Leah is an Assistant Manager at K3 Tax Advisory and a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA). Her background combines private client advisory at KPMG and in wider private client practice with tax investigation work at HMRC.
Leah’s work focuses on the connections between businesses, their owners and family wealth. She works with individuals, families and privately owned companies on changes to business ownership and succession planning before a business sale. This includes the use of trusts and family holding companies, alongside UK tax considerations involving overseas assets and structures.
What interests Leah most is the question behind the tax question: what someone wants to change, what they want to preserve and what might be getting in the way. She enjoys working through situations where business decisions and family plans overlap, bringing the different considerations together so clients can see their options more clearly.
Her advisory and HMRC experience helps her to understand how HMRC approaches certain transactions or disputes. Leah bring a curious, thorough approach, with an emphasis on understanding clients’ unique circumstances and explaining the practical implications in straightforward language.
RECENT EXPERIENCE:
- Helped individuals and families understand how much inheritance tax their estate could face and put practical plans in place to reduce it, through gifting, applying available reliefs, or restructuring how assets were held.
- Advised families on transferring wealth to children in a structured way, including setting up trusts, restructuring shareholdings, and ensuring the right people benefited at the right time in a tax-efficient way.
- Worked on the restructuring of successful private companies before a sale, including introducing holding companies, separating business activities, and establishing trusts as part of the overall structure.
- Advised a family-owned company on how ownership and control could pass from one generation to the next, including restructuring share classes as the older generation prepared to step back from the business.
- Assessed the tax position of a business owner planning to exit the business and move overseas, looking at how both the business assets and their personal finances would be treated under different scenarios.
